Default [ New Rit Here ] Advice needed

After playing as an ele from the days when i bought GW I went with a RIT, love the spirits and the dmg they do, or can do. I played as a Ele/Rit and was doing UW soloing but wasn't quite sucsessful, so I decided to go with a full Rit/?

I am not only looking for a UW Rit Solo SOS but I want something that can do high dmg. I have been reading and I am having a tough time decideding either a Rit/A, Rit/N, or a Rit/R. I am leaning towards a Rit/N or a /R.

Sence I like casters I think a Rit will be fun.

What do you pro Rit players recommened ? Thanks

Recently I went Rt/N, with Necrosis as only N skill. It's great when you're facing several mobs and spirits spread their dmg thin by attacking all at random. Just pick of the low hp mobs quickly so spirits can focus their damage better.

I'm not a pro Rit player, butttttt I really think both are fun Rit/N, Rit/Ran.
I really like trying new things as same ol same ol is BORING. So I actually tried a Rit/Necro Explosive Growth Minion Bomber(I know its not new) But it does alot of damage in big mobs if they are around, alot of corpses = yummyyyy.
A Rit/Ranger can be fun too, esp as a Splinter Barrager.

Also just an idea,

Rit/Mes

Spawning 12+1+3
Channeling 12+1

Echo
Archane Echo
Ebon Vangaurd Assassin Support
Ancestors Rage
Optional
Spirits Gift
Explosive Growth
Boon Of Creation

Rit money skills:
Signet of Spirits: damage with longbow range
--> abuse summon spirits with this
Splinter weapon: AoE damage, spammable on your physicals (ranger, warrior, assassin, dervish, paragon)
--> or make rangers feel sad by speccing 0 in marksmanship and bring barrage with a wintergreen/peppermint bow
Xinrae's Weapon: Protective bond (limits damage to 5% max health) on the next hit, flat 63ish-70ish life stealing
Soul Twisting : for use with communing spirits like Union, Shelter, Displacement
Destructive was Glaive: for the farmers that spam Spirit rift
--> also makes Channeled Strike roughly equal to Lightning Hammer

other good skills:
Ancestor's Rage --> armor ignoring 100ish damage around your melee
Vengeful Weapon --> makes Reversal of Fortune look bad
Weapon of Remedy --> makes Life Sheath sad
Mend Body and Soul --> cheap heal with condition removal using Life spirit
Soothing Memories --> when used with Protective was Kaolai, a 80ish to 90ish 2 energy heal
Spirit Light --> cheap massive heal
Protective was Kaolai --> cheap party heal, though only on 25 recharge (roughly one heal per battle, but you can precast)
Weapon of warding --> Like Guardian but better and non-removable though for 10 energy

Spirit siphon --> supreme e management for those with spirits
renewing surge --> DPS + e management for those without spirits
Essence strike --> lightning strike type damage + e management
spirit boon strike --> to heal spirits if you don't have summon spirits

If you're running restoration, keep in mind Ritualists lack hex removal ..just like everyone else except Mesmers). That's why monks' cure hex and dwayna's kiss are so strong.

Youll be ascended fairly early in factions, so really whichever seems more to your liking. Rit being a caster profession I'd say go /Necro for now, then after you are Ascended you can change, experiment more.

You generally don't need secondary skills. The only reason to get /N is for minion bombing and for /Mo to get non-elite hex removal on a decent recharge (/Me for inspired hex on 20 recharge, shatter hex is to expensive, when you can get cure hex or remove hex).

Ya, I kind of figured. Rits are stong as it is. I think i'll gor /N as I like bombing. My triple H/H N/? is very nice. So ya sounds like a plan too me.

What about weapons, gear ? What one(s) should I get ?

You realise you can change your secondary once you pass a certain point in the game? By the time you can enter UW you will have passed this point. Stop worrying about it so much.

Secondly, regarding heroes, you might as well slot in another Rit rather than 3 Necros.

Thirdly, weaponry depends on what build you're running. For a minion bomber you're probably best off with a 40/40 death set. For a spirit based build you're probably best off with a +5e +5AL spear and a shield of some kind. Weapon mods don't affect binding rituals so you might as well sit in a defensive set.

Cool, as always, thx for your help. Well I am not worried about my 2nd, however I don't think it'll let me leave the insland in factions until I pick some sort of 2nd.

as I was taking a new rit on my 2nd account through the games a few months ago, I mixed things up a bit to make them more fun than setting spirits, and wanding until time to pick up loot.

So I had some spirits but the elite was DWG. It was more fun running around dropping that thing with the safety of some spirits to keep the heat off. Ancestor's rage and maybe /R for Serpent's Quickness to make those 2 channelling skills more spammable can round that out.

It depends to a degree on what sort of build you want. A spirit spammer should run Shamans. Survivor tends to be a good general choice if you don't think you'll be able to meet any particular +AL conditions.

Runes: the best vigor you can afford, minor spawning, and any minor(s) of Channelling/Resto/Comm where appropriate.

Assuming you're using a secondary other than a warrior, does shield use benefit only from the +AL or +Health modifier on it? I was unaware that binding rits didn't benefit from a 40/40 set. All these years and I'm still a nub.

Regarding the first part, you'll get 8AL if you don't meet the requirement* and full bonuses from the +health or whatever mods you've got on it.

*I thought it was half AL when you don't meet the requirement but I've heard people talking about it being a fixed 8AL. Not sure exactly how this number comes up but it's correct in this instance.

40/40 sets reduce the casting time and recharge of SPELLS. Binding Rituals are not spells, nor are SoS, SoGM, or ST, so therefore a 40/40 set will have no effect whatsoever. Likewise, 20% enchant mods are not particularly useful, nor are a lot of +e mods. This is why I sit in my spear/shield set in PvE. If you're not using your secondary for utility you might even be able to put points in Tactics.

All I have to say is, one word, wow, Rits are awesome. I have never seen such dmg before, until now. My main char sence I first played GW was a Ele, I rate Rits a 2nd fav.

Thanks again Marty for all of your help as well as the players responding to this thread.

I went into UW just too see, 2 runs, 3 ectos. Not bad for short time.

Now other areas, can Rits solo areas like FOW, DOA, etc? The dmg they do is amazing.

I'd imagine Rit's can solo parts of FoW, if not a significant part of it. Don't think DoA is possible to any meaningful extent due to the strength of the mobs but I have very limited experience there so I can't give a definite answer.
